Overview
I just recently picked up the habit of reading about fourteen years ago. I am living proof that you can condition yourself to read. I had never been a reader. Up until that point you could probably have counted on one hand how many books I had read from start to finish. I began by forcing myself to read. The more I read, the more addicted I became. I have also found myself addicted to collecting books that I have read or plan on reading. I am slowly building my own library. I read in David McCullough's biography of John Adams that both Adams and Thomas Jefferson's most prized possessions were their books. Now I understand where they were coming from. I have to give credit for this transformation to Rob Renshaw. Renshaw is an avid reader and was the inspiration for me pursing the habit. It has proved to be a stress reducing, relaxing, and enlightening hobby. I am also afraid that today's technology and the entertainment world is slowly causing it to become a lost art. I hope it is something I can pass on to my children and the student-athletes I coach.
I have arranged a list of the books that I have read. I have also added my own ranking system. I have ranked them on a scale of 1-5. 1= I wasted my time. 2= I would not recommend. 3= Worth my time. 4= A really good book. 5= One of the best books I have ever read. The ranking will be indicated in parentheses before the book title.
